The Suggestopedia method

What´s the Suggestopedia Method?

Suggestopedia uses natural, inviting media and sensory input such as colors, images, and especially music with an emphasis on active participation.

The founder of the technique, Georgi Lozanov, thought that the mind is more receptive to knowledge in a relaxed state. Lozanov and his followers began introducing language material to students while playing soft music, believing that students would become "suggestible" and more open to learning.

Suggestopedia is a method that attempts to apply the principles of sugestology - the influence of suggestion on human behavior - to teaching second languages.

The theory of learning is based on a process of 'desuggestion' followed by 'suggestion', which aims to create storage (memory data) in a state of simultaneous relaxation and mental concentration known as 'concentrated psychic relaxation'. In this process, during desuggestion, the memory is cleared of all kinds of unwanted or blocking memories, and then through suggestion, it is loaded with desired or facilitating memories. These two aspects of the process work through components that allow access to memory reserves or data.

The activity consists of listening to the sog called head, shoulders, knees and toes and learning the parts of body.
